American coalition attack kills 300 civilians

NEW YORK - The international human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) said the US-led coalition forces (US) in Syria has killed at least 300 civilians in attacks in Manbij. AI also warned the US-led coalition must do more to prevent further civilian deaths as the intensification of the war in Mosul, Iraq.

"In support of the ground forces of anti-ISIS during the campaign in Manbij this summer, the US-led coalition killed around 250 or more civilians, but they do not admit it," said the investigator AI to Syria, Neil Sammonds, as quoted by The Guardian, Thursday ( 10.27.2016).

"We are worried because it does not recognize or learn from mistakes so that in the campaign for Mosul, which is much larger than Manbij, the coalition is on track to kill Sipul with large numbers and pose a risk of serious reactions," he added.

The rights group spent several months interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence photos and videos, analyzing satellite images and reports from local activists to determine the total number of deaths.

AI stated that only a handful of deaths have been recognized by the coalition forces in the attack on Syria. AI also called for preventive measures and independent investigation of potential violations of international law.

"We fear US-led coalition to significantly underestimate the damage caused to civilians in operations in Syria. Some of these attacks may constitute indiscriminate attacks disproportionate or vice versa. It is time for the US government to explain about civil damages caused by coalition attack in Syria , "said Lynn Maalouf, deputy director for research at the AI office in Beirut.
