Russia and Saudi Assessed Inappropriate Being in the UN Human Rights Council

GENEVA - Human Rights Group International, Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International (AI) assess Russia and Saudi Arabia did not deserve to be in the UN Human Rights Council. The two countries are planning to run for UN Human Rights Council.

Both organizations said that neither Russia nor Saudi have problems in terms of respect for human rights. Russia rated commit attacks on civilians in Aleppo and Saudi attacking civilians Yemen.

In addition, both the rights group also called the candidacy of both countries risk damaging the credibility of the UN Human Rights Council and its ability to punish those who commit human rights violations.

"UN Human Rights Council's ability to successfully expose violations are under threat, as some countries use it to thwart efforts to expose crimes and violations of their own," said HRW director for the UN, Louis Charbonneau, as reported Haaretz on Tuesday (25/10).

HRW and AI also called China and Egypt did not deserve to be in the body of the UN agency. The UN General Assembly will hold elections to determine the 47-nation UN Human Rights Council on 28 October.
